Forget Roleplay โ This RedM Server Makes Horses the Main Game
When you search for a RedM server, you’ll find dozens of options. Most of them treat horses as background props. A way to get from Point A to Point B. A cosmetic accessory to your character’s outfit.
The Tackroom is different. This is a RedM horse server built from the ground up around equestrian gameplay. Breeding. Training. Catching wild horses. Running rescue missions. Managing a stable full of horses with custom breeds, stats, and personalities. If you love horses and you love Red Dead Redemption 2, this is the server where those two things meet.
With over 9,000 members in our Discord community, The Tackroom has become the go-to RedM equestrian server for players who want horse mechanics with real depth.
What Makes This RedM Horse Server Different
On a typical RedM server, you buy a horse from a stable menu, slap a saddle on it, and ride. The horse is a vehicle. Nothing more.
On The Tackroom, your horse is the game.
We run a custom stable system called SireVLC that tracks 92 distinct horse breeds. Each breed has unique stats. Each horse develops its own personality traits over time. Your Arabian handles differently than your Shire, and both require different strategies for different activities.
But we didn’t stop at the breeds Rockstar gave us. The Tackroom features custom horse models built exclusively for our server: the American Quarter Horse, Spotted Draft Horse, Hanoverian, American Saddlebred, Friesian, and Draft Mule. These are fully modeled horses that don’t exist on any other RedM server. You won’t find these exact models in vanilla RDR2 or on competing servers. They exist here and only here.
On top of custom models, we run a few custom horse coats. These are hand-painted textures commissioned from independent artists or provided to us with permission for use. When you see a coat on The Tackroom, there’s a good chance it doesn’t exist anywhere else in the RedM community.

The combination of 92 breeds, 6 exclusive custom models, and a growing collection of unique coats means your stable on The Tackroom looks and plays differently than anything else available.
And we’re not done. TTR Stables, our own proprietary stable script, is currently in development. This will be a one-of-a-kind system built exclusively for The Tackroom, designed from scratch to give our players a stable experience no other RedM server will be able to offer. We’re not ready to share full details yet, but TTR Stables is being built specifically around the needs our community has told us matter most.
This is not a reskinned fast-travel system. This is an equestrian sandbox where how you acquire, raise, train, and care for your horses defines your entire experience on the server.

Breeding: A Full Equestrian System
The Tackroom uses SireVLC for breeding. Other RedM servers run SireVLC too. The difference is what we’ve built on top of it.
Through SireVLC, players breed horses with a phased timeline. Gestation takes 4 hours from breeding to birth. From there, your foal progresses through life stages: Newborn to Weanling (23 hours), Weanling to Youngster (23 hours), Youngster to Yearling (22 hours). The full cycle from breeding to a rideable horse takes roughly 3 days of real time.
These timers exist for two reasons. First, they prevent “money printing,” where players breed nonstop to generate easy profit from foal sales. The cooldown keeps the horse economy healthy and makes each foal worth something. Second, phased breeding reduces server load. Staggering the lifecycle stages means the server isn’t processing hundreds of simultaneous breed events at once.
Breeding is offline, meaning your horses progress through these stages whether you’re logged in or not. You don’t need to babysit the process.
Where The Tackroom separates from every other server running SireVLC is the gene pool. We have over 4,900 custom coat options that determine what your foal looks like when it’s born. These coats have been built, contributed, and refined by staff who have helped grow the pool over time. When you breed two horses on The Tackroom, the foal pulls from a coat library that no other server has. Players breeding the same breed pairing will get different results. The variety keeps breeding fresh and gives players a reason to keep pairing horses to see what comes out.
With 92 breeds and a coat gene pool this deep, players build lineages, trade horses, and chase specific coat outcomes. For equestrian players, this is the system that makes The Tackroom feel less like a game server and more like a living stable.

Wild Horse Catching
One of the most popular activities on The Tackroom is catching wild horses. Herds spawn across the map in breed-appropriate locations, and you can find every herd location on the TTR Interactive Map before you ever leave town. Plan your route, pick your target area, and ride out with a purpose.
Once you find a herd, the work begins. Spot the horse you want, then rope it or sneak up and jump on. From there, a breaking minigame kicks in: you use your arrow keys to keep a marker between two zones on a balance bar while the horse tries to throw you. Hold on long enough and the horse is tamed. You’ll get an alert confirming the break, and then you ride it back to the wild horse buyer to adopt or sell it.
Then comes the twist.
The Tackroom runs a Wild Horse Roulette system. The horse you catch is not necessarily the horse you take home. You might chase down and break a grey Arabian out in the wild, but when you adopt it at the stable, you end up with a bay roan Shire. The breed and coat you get is randomized at adoption, the horse you get will be the same on the horse you catch; but the breeds will randomize periodically to keep you on your toes.
Is that realistic? No. Is it fun? Absolutely.
Wild Horse Roulette turns every catch into a surprise. It breaks the predictability of targeting one specific breed and forces you to appreciate horses you might never have chosen on your own. Players who came in wanting only Arabians have discovered a love for draft breeds they never expected. It adds a layer of excitement to what would otherwise become a routine loop, and it keeps the wild horse hunting community active because every ride out to a herd carries genuine suspense.
Wild horse catching gives players a reason to explore every corner of the Red Dead Redemption 2 map. It rewards patience, riding skill, and a willingness to be surprised over grinding or min-maxing.
Sire Rescue Missions
Not every horse on The Tackroom needs to be caught or bred. Sire Rescue Missions send you out into the world to recover horses in distress. These missions vary in type and difficulty: you might intercept poachers, respond to a report from a remote farm, or track down a horse that’s been separated from a trader convoy.
Activities Beyond the Saddle
The Tackroom is a horse-first server, but the world around those horses is full of things to do. Every activity on the server connects back to your horses in some way, whether through travel, transport, or trade.
Farming is a full system supporting 180+ concurrent players. You plant, tend, and harvest crops. The farming system runs optimized backend code with in-memory caching and batch database syncs, meaning zero lag even at peak population. Harvests produce random yields within configurable ranges, so no two farming sessions play out the same way.
Cattle Drives require you to move livestock across the map using your horse. Terrain, weather, and your horse’s stamina all factor in. A tired horse on a steep mountain pass with a herd of cattle is a real challenge, not a scripted cutscene.
Fishing gives you a reason to seek out remote waterways. It’s a quieter activity that pairs well with the server’s emphasis on exploration and travel.
Herbalism sends you foraging across the map for plants and ingredients. The herbalism system has its own progression path with levels and milestones. As you advance, you unlock access to rarer ingredients and new recipes.
Delivery and Transport Missions put your horse management skills to the test. You’re hauling cargo over long distances. Your horse’s stats, your tack setup, and your route planning all affect whether you arrive on time and intact.
Bounty Hunting adds an edge to the sandbox. Track targets, plan your approach, and bring them in. Bounty hunting has its own progression system with level milestones and Prestige titles for dedicated players.
Guarma content opens up an entirely separate area of the map for players looking for something beyond the mainland. It’s end-game exploration territory that rewards experienced riders.
No Forced Roleplay. Real Gameplay.
The Tackroom is an equestrian sandbox. We built the tools, the systems, and the world. What you do with them is up to you.
Want to roleplay as a ranch hand with a full backstory? Go for it. Want to skip the RP entirely and focus on breeding the perfect stable? That works too. Want to spend your whole session fishing by a river with your horse tied to a tree nearby? Nobody’s stopping you.
Some players build entire identities around their characters. Others log in, catch a wild horse, sell it, and log out. Both are playing The Tackroom the way it was meant to be played, because there is no single way it was meant to be played.
We don’t require voice RP. We don’t require character arcs. We give you 92 breeds, 4,900+ coat options, breeding, wild horse catching, farming, bounty hunting, cattle drives, herbalism, rescue missions, and a full open world. You decide what your experience looks like.
A Community of 9,000+ Horse Players
The Tackroom’s Discord community has grown past 9,000 members. That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when you build a RedM server around a niche that other servers ignore.
The community is active, helpful, and passionate about horses. New players get guidance. Bug reports go through the Bugs channel. Real estate purchases go through a dedicated approval process. The server runs with structure, but the community sets the tone.
Regular updates keep the server fresh. The development team rolls out new features, balance changes, and content patches based on player feedback. When 10,000 people care about horse mechanics, the feedback is detailed and specific.
How to Join The Tackroom
Getting onto the server takes five steps:
- Own Red Dead Redemption 2 through Rockstar or Steam.
- Download and install RedM from redm.net.
- Launch RedM and search for The Tackroom.
- Join the Discord community at discord.gg/thetackroom for maps, guides, and server updates.
