Breeding: Offline Progression Is Here

This is the big one.

Your foals now age whether you’re online or offline. On another character? Doesn’t matter. Logged off for the night? Your foal keeps growing. No more babysitting timers. No more rushing to log in. Breed your horses and live your life.

Whether you play 2 hours a week or 20, your foals progress at the same rate. This levels the playing field.

Why This Matters

  • No more pressure to stay online for timers
  • Switch characters freely without stalling growth
  • Sleep, work, touch grass. Your foal progresses anyway.

Server Performance

This isn’t just a convenience feature. Offline progression significantly improves server performance and database health. The old system required constant tracking while you were online. The new system calculates time elapsed when you check in, reducing server load and database writes. Everyone benefits, especially during peak hours.

Breeding Timers

Real-time timers mean everyone reaches adulthood at the same pace, regardless of playtime

PhaseDurationWhat’s Happening
Phase 14 hoursBreed to Birth
Phase 223 hoursNewborn stage
Phase 323 hoursYearling stage
Phase 422 hoursFinal growth
Total3 daysFull adulthood

Breeding Costs

ActionCost
Breeding$3,000
Foal Default Value$2,700
Loss if Voided at Birth$300

Selling and Transferring Foals

ActionWhen Available
Sell to another playerPhase 2 (~1 day after birth)
Sell/Delete at stablesPhase 3 (~2 days after birth)

Why this system? This isn’t about rewarding players who grind more. It’s about removing the disadvantage for players who can’t. We want to encourage real player-to-player sales and discourage “breed and void” behavior. Find a buyer? You can sell sooner. Just want to delete at the stables? That foal takes up a slot for two days. Think before you breed.

If you need help calculating when your horses will age; please feel free to use our Foal Phase Calculator

Horse Title is now “Bred By”

We changed how the script said “Title” so now you should consistently see where it says “Bred By” and you can add this to your horses. We did add a charge in the stable to change this, there is no way to lock this (unless charging an absurd amount). For now we’ll stick with this system and see how it goes.

Genome Selection

Following community feedback, you can now select genomes for your horses when purchasing.

What this means:

  • Control over basic coat genetics when buying
  • Quality of life for getting the base coat you want
  • Options are default Sire configurations

What this does NOT mean:

  • No custom coats (lace, ink, etc.) available through selection
  • No rare coats in the genome options
  • Stats are not affected

Popular coats and optimal stats still require breeding. This feature gives you a better starting point without undermining breeding programs.

Inherited Genetics

After reading more thoroughly through sire discord, as well as asking questions there is clarification on this so far what we understand.

Foals inherit genetics from Parent A & Parent B.

Additionally there is a 10% change their genetics/outcomes can be influenced by horses in the database for that specific player.

This means that there is a 10% chance to take inspiration from the players own owned horses.

Seven New Personalities

We’ve added seven new horse personalities, each with unique behaviors, traits, and bond evolutions.

Ranch Hand

The tough, dependable working horse.

Zero fear of livestock. Won’t throw, flee, or buck. Slight chance of kicking strangers. Has a herding instinct and may follow nearby animals or players. Defends you at bonding level 2. Resists neglect.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Hot-Blooded

Show Horse

Refined, arena-trained, and well-mannered.

Responds immediately. Never kicks, flees, throws, or bucks. The catch? Terrified of cows, sheep, pigs, and goats. High maintenance. Keep it away from the ranch.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Sensitive

Tracker

The hunting horse.

Steady around all wildlife. Never spooks, throws, bucks, or flees. Strong follow instinct. Hardy in the field. Slight call delay (nose to the ground). Not a fighter. A hunter.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Aloof

Guardian

The protector.

Comes immediately. Follows commands without fail. Will not flee, throw, or buck under any circumstances. Fearless. Defends you from day one. Requires 100 love to evolve positively.

Bond Evolution: High (100 required) → Serene | Low → Distrustful

Feral

The rehab project.

Slow to respond. Ignores commands. Fears humans. Attacks animals on survival instinct. Bucks hard. Throws riders. Clumsy. Needs proper care to progress. Neglect stops evolution cold. Put in the work.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Dangerous

In Your Pocket

The lovebug.

Follows you constantly. Follows everyone constantly. Gentle with all animals. Never kicks, bucks, flees, or throws. A little clumsy (trips over its own feet). Defends you at bonding level 1 because it loves you that much.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Clingy

Trail Boss

Seen it all. Done it all.

Fears nothing. Spooks at nothing. Bucks at nothing. Throws nobody. Takes its time coming when called (moves on its own schedule). Too old and wise to fight. Resists neglect.

Bond Evolution: High → Serene | Low → Lazy

Training Updates

Leading Training

You can now gain XP through leading your horse, not just riding. If there are training locations that you feel we could add leading training we can!

Free Lunging

Lunge your horse anywhere on the map. No designated location needed. Most lunging varieties are still available at Foal Park, but you’re not limited to it. You do not need a lunge line to lunge you horse, just do /horse_lunging and it’ll start.

Video Tutorial: https://youtu.be/kY8BgupmkOA

Etiquette: Please avoid lunging in high-traffic areas or at Horse Park. Head to quieter spots on the map.

Wild Horses

New Breaking Minigame

Wild horse breaking has a new system. A bar appears at the bottom of your screen. Use your left and right arrow keys to keep the center icon balanced. Takes some practice.

Horse Roulette

Still available with a new set of breeds. If you catch something that doesn’t seem right, report the breed and coat to staff.

Spawn Locations

Unchanged for bear spawns and standard RDR2 locations.

Wagons

Quality of life improvements across the board:

  • Carcass and item capacity increased
  • Expanded customization options
  • Prices adjusted slightly (report inconsistencies)

For more details on wagon updates, check out Sire’s videos. We’ve implemented their base update with our own configuration.

Butcher

New locations and fixes:

  • Annesburg butcher added
  • Colter butcher added
  • MacFarlanes butcher added
  • Wapiti butcher added
  • Black screen issue when adding locations has been fixed
  • All prices remain the same

UI/UX Updates

  • Horse descriptions now display price when viewing
  • All horses within a breed share the same price
  • Report pricing discrepancies to staff via Discord
  • No changes to horse stats

For more on menu updates, visit Sire’s website: https://www.sirevlc.com/news

With the UI, this is something we have VERY little ability to customize location of panels, or overlapping for the chat. This is a Sire implementation and we don’t have much flexibility on it.

Activity & Roles Update

Herbalism, Collecting, and Bounty Hunting all had an XP system built in. There was not a whole lot to do with it beyond watching the number go up or just grind to make money. That changes now.

We wanted to build some sort of “progression” system into the game. We are an equestrian server, but there’s more to TTR then just the horses. We’ve built out what we’re calling TTR Collecting and TTR Prestige.

Every 10 levels within each role, you’ll receive a special loot item in your inventory. These are unique to each role and are yours to keep as trophies or sell for a solid cash bonus. The sell values are hidden, so you’ll find out what they’re worth when you take them to the general store.

On top of that, every non-milestone level rewards you with role-specific Chips (Herbalist Chip, Collector Chip, or Bounty Chip). These are another way to earn money as you progress. The higher your level, the more chips you earn per level.

All roles cap at level 100. This is a long-term goal. Level 100 is a long-term goal designed to reward dedication over time, not hours per session. We want leveling to feel earned. Numbers may be adjusted over time as we monitor how things play out, but this system is designed to give every role more depth and more reasons to keep playing.
If you were previously leveled you can’t retrospectively earn the rewards. You’re welcome to request to have your levels wiped if you like.

TTR Collection Items

Each role has 10 exclusive items earned at levels 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100. Collect them all or sell them for cash.

These items are not placeable or have any other use.

Herbalism

Nothing changed with the core herbalism script. You gather herbs the same way, sell them at the same prices, and run missions the same way. The only change is the XP leveling system. You now earn chips on non-milestone levels and TTR Herbalist Collection items every 10 levels.

Herb sell prices remain the same.

Collector

We ran this script on TTR before, but it caused server crashes. Sire has released updates and we’re giving it another go. If performance holds up, we’ll integrate collector item locations into our TTR Map.

We adjusted the pricing on collectible items. We know the items are spread across the entire map and there’s a 24-hour cooldown before you collect again. We wanted to bring the earning rate closer to what herbalism and bounty hunting pay so that every role feels worth doing. Prices are not set in stone. We’ll make adjustments if needed.

If you complete an entire set, you’ll earn a solid cash bonus plus 5 gold bars on top of what the individual items are worth. Completing a full set takes effort, and the payout reflects that.

You can see the collector items on our TTR Map.

Bounty Hunting

Bounty hunting payouts got a bump. Both short and long missions pay more than before. You’re rewarded more for bringing the bounty back alive. Turning in a dead target pays roughly 36% less than alive.

Alive (Short): $600 to $1,100
Alive (Long): $950 to $1,700
Dead (Short): $400 to $700
Dead (Long): $650 to $1,100

XP leveling was also reworked. You earn TTR Bounty Hunter Collection items every 10 levels and chips on every non-milestone level, same as the other two roles.

What’s Next

We’re not done. Expect:

  • More custom horse models in development
  • Additional breeds in future updates, as well as model variation within breeds.
  • Continued training system improvements
  • Adding XP leveling to Hunting
  • Potentially seeing about an XP system with farming (long term)

Known Issues

This is a major update. There will be bugs. Please report any issues in the SireVLC V4 Bug Channel on Discord.
